Vacation at Nana's

Last weekend we had the opportunity to visit with my mother at her summer home in Michigan. Even under construction as it was, it is a truly lovely spot. It was a very nice vacation, especially for Iggy who joined us rather than staying at the kennel. She even managed to become friendly with my mom, who bribed her shamelessly with potato chips.

We drove up late on Friday and got there around 2am local time. The kids however decided to wake up and play with their Nana. That didn't keep Lenny from waking up at his usual 6am wake time. Faye, however, having gotten the deluxe treatment of bunking with her Nana, remained snuggled up in bed for about an hour longer. She was so happy with the bed that she remained asleep even after my mom got up. Here she is in all her snuggly glory.

Lenny spent a lot of time later on that day going in and out of Iggy's crate. Here he is caught in the act.

On Sunday we decided to head for the beach. Lenny loved it, as expected, splitting his time between wading as far out as Ed would take him and then sitting right at the shore playing in the surf.

Faye opted for time in the sand with her bucket and toys.

Long time, no bloggin'. . .

Crazy, hunh? Yeah, I'd like to say I've been too busy to blog lately, but the truth is, I've just been having too much fun with the babes. Babies this age are just so adorable, especially mine! Lenny and Faye have been into everything.

Walking, walking everywhere. They still insist on holding on to someone's hand to walk, although they both can walk on their own. Faye started taking a few solo steps back in May and Lenny did took his first steps today. It was amazing! Much stronger than Faye's (which were kind of a glorified fall onto the couch), I stood Lenny up and he just walked off on his own. Twice! I have witnesses.

Anyway, besides walking, there's been a whole lot of talking. They can say "mommy", "daddy", "kitty-cat", "dog", "please", "thank you", "can I", "see" and a whole lot of other things that sound like giberish right now but are sure to evolve into something. Oh, and Lenny can say "cicada". Weird, hunh.

Other than that, we've just been having a bunch of fun with the warm weather. We take a walk every evening to the park and back. Last night, Ed was home early enough so we let them play in the sprinklers at the park. Lenny loved it, he stood in the epicenter of the four sprinklers as if he was the sprinkler sheriff. Faye, stuck her hands and toes in,
but wasn't enamored of getting too wet.

Today we took the kids over to my aunt Mille's house and let them get in the pool. Pictures are below.
Lenny enjoyed himself immensely. Faye, had a good time for a little while, but then had to get out and socialize. They were both adorable (I know I'm biased, but seriously they were).

Lenny continues his love affair with our dog, Iggy. Here he is gently petting her head . . .

Then hugging her head . . .

Then wrestling with her on the floor. Good times!

Not to be outdone, Faye practices her body slam on her teddy bear. Watch out, Lenny, Faye's got a wicked head-lock, too!

But Faye still enjoys a quiet moment with her bear, so long as he keeps in line!

Faye shows off her pearly whites for her Aunt Mille at the pool.

Lenny squeals in delight about splashing around in the water.

One is great!

What a week we had last week! The kids turned one, we took a trip with Ed down to Vandalia, we hosted three birthday parties and Lenny's top two teeth started to come in. But it's all part and parcel of the fabulous first year of having Lenny and Faye! We feel so very blessed.

Lenny and Faye enjoy their last day as "infants" in some cute, tech-humor tee-shirts from their Uncle Arnold. Since Faye was born first, we let her be the original.

Lenny and Faye rest up before heading out on the town for their birthday. Vandalia is a happening town!

Lenny and Faye stare in awe at one of their new birthday toys, a Little People airplane.

Faye enjoys some down time on her birthday. "Turning one is great!"

Lenny makes a mad dash for the toys after checking out what's under the hotel room bed.

Lenny and Faye featured prominently on their birthday cake.

We let them tackle a cupcake this year instead of a whole piece of cake. Check out the video to see how it went.

Faye eats her cupcake as daintily as possible. . .

Whereas Lenny jammed as much in his mouth as he could!

Sunday came with the third and final party. Thanks, Nana and Grandpa Boyle for the ice cream cake!!

Lenny politely opens the card first . . .

. . . before tearing into his present.

Faye helps Nana with the tissue paper.

Then spends some quiet time with her toys.

Happy Birthday, Great-grandpa Nichin!!

On Sunday, the Nichin side of our family got together to celebrate my Grandfather's 80th birthday. It was a beautiful day and everyone had a lovely time.

Faye plays patty cake on Uncle Richie's head.

Then dances to the Hungarian music with my cousin Karen.

Lenny wishes his Great-grandpa a very happy birthday.

Then, tuckered out, he snuggles up with his daddy.

Easter - Part 2

On the Sunday after Easter, my mother's side of the family got together for Easter dinner. It was very nice not to have to split the time up and we had it at our house, so there was no travel time which was very nice. Everyone had a great time.

Here's Nana Boyle with her grand-daughters.

Annika had a great time playing in our massive, hand-me-down toy pile.

Annika and Daddy snuggle up on the couch.

Next year: we hunt for EGGS!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Cubbies!!!

As you all know, our children have inherited our (mostly Ed's) love of the Chicago Cubs. It wasn't hard, as both our families are filled with die-hard Cub fans. But as anyone who's been listening to or watching the games the past couple of days has been sorry to hear that we're in a three game losing streak (can you really call that a streak?), the worst of which was loosing the home opener yesterday. In order to give some moral support to our friends at the Friendly Confines, the kids dressed up in their Cubbie blues (and pinks) today (courtesy of Suzie). It didn't help the Cubs win, unfortunately, but it lent itself to some cute photos, so without further ado . . .

Lenny proudly wears his Cubs gear

Faye tries to play "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," but her xylophone won't let her.

Faye lounges around while listening to the game.

Lenny joins Faye in a relaxing afternoon of baseball.

Did I say relaxing? "Come on, Cubbies!" Faye says, "You're tanking and it's only the first inning! We need some hats, so we can get our rally-caps on!"

"Can you believe this, Lenny?"

"Listen, Faye! It's the bottom of the ninth, but they've finally scored some runs!"

"Oh, well, there's always the next game. See you here tomorrow at 1:20, Lenny!"

Happy Easter - part 1

Happy Easter, everyone! Lenny and Faye had a wonderful first Easter. They enjoyed it so much we'll be doing it again this Sunday with my mother's family! So, here are the pictures from part 1:
Faye and Grandpa Nichin enjoy some time together.

Lenny and Grandma Nichin smile for the camera.

Joey (Lenny and Faye's cousin who's about three weeks older than them) shows off his walking skills while joining the big kids for the Easter egg hunt at Colleen's. Such a big boy!!!

Bannon cousins hit Aunt Colleen's lawn searching for eggs.

Lenny plays with his big cousin Alan who's home for the weekend but soon back on the road with his band, 1997.
Their music is fantastic! So here's my shameless plug: check out their CD at www.victoryrecords.com/1997.

Faye thinks her pink bunny is just the funniest thing! Thanks, Grandma Bannon!

Triplets?????

April Fools!!! No of course we don't have triplets, but when our niece, Annika, spent the night with us this weekend, we got to try out what it would have been like. Fortunately for us, all three kids are so wonderful (and self-sufficent) that it was no trouble at all and everyone had a wonderful evening. So, without further ado, the pictures . . .

Lenny gets his hands on a couple of candy filled eggs at the Holy Family Easter Party.

Faye also grabs one of the colorful plastic eggs.

Annika and Grandpa Nichin hang out as Annika shows off her awesome Easter basket!

Heather finds out what staying home with triplets would really have been like: Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

We desperately tried to get a good photo of all three kids together, but Lenny couldn't keep his hands off Annika
's hair and Faye was just fed up with the whole scenario.

Here's a better shot of them playing, even if you can't really see all of their faces.

Isn't Annika a beauty? And she's such a happy baby.

Faye enjoyed having her cousin over for the night, but had to guard some of her favorite toys a little more closely.

Lenny, on the prowl, after Annika and those gorgeous curls!

Annika prefers the gentle minstrations of Uncle Ed. Hey, Aunt Heather, why are you taking my picture when I'm in the middle of getting dressed?!?!?

We took all three kids out for a walk this morning after breakfast. Our kids are pretty early risers, so Annika was a bit tuckered out as you can see.

Annika and Lenny play with Iggy while Faye gets some rest upstairs.
